We’ve designed our configurator to let you choose only the ball sizes you actually need. This way, you’re not paying for extra components you won’t use…just the exact setup that fits your towing requirements.
Does the HitchJack interfere with my tailgate?
A multipro or multiflex tailgate will definitely fold down into the HitchJack. we sell a pad to protect the tailgate if lowered into the HitchJack. the pad is also useful in protecting a tailgate or SUV hatch if opened with the HitchJack in a high position.
Can I use a HitchJack with a cargo tray or motorcycle rack?
yes, the HitchJack is designed to lift nearly any load. choose the receiver adapter option if you want to use your HitchJack with a load carrying attachment that fits a standard 2″ receiver. ask us about other accessories to make carrying your loads easy.
Are those lights on the HitchJack?
Yes, the HitchJack uses your vehicle’s tail light circuit to illuminate side lights that draw attention to the HJ for the safety of pedestrians.
Do i need to keep the HitchJack plugged into my bumper's trailer connector??
No, you have the choice of getting a harness that plugs the HitchJack in behind your bumper, or a simple removable cable to plug it into the 7-pin blade connector.
Does the HitchJack reduce my towing capacity?
Usually not, but your towing capacity is determined by the lowest rating of the following:
- Vehicle Towing Rating
- Hitch (or HitchJack) Towing Rating
- Ball Rating
Does the HitchJack have a feature to lock it tightly into the receiver to reduce vibration and noise while towing?
Yes, after you install the hitch pin there is a wedge bracket that tightens against the receiver flange to lock the HitchJack in place.

Do I still need my trailer jack?
You do need something to hold up your trailer when you disconnect it. Look for our kickstands to make it super easy.
How do I know if my vehicle has a USCAR cable?
Almost all American made vehicles with factory towing packages started using the USCAR cable harness behind the bumper in the mid-2000’s. If your vehicle doesn’t fit this description use our contact form to email us your vehicle information.
How do I know whether I need the long or short USCAR cable?
If your trailer connector module is on the left side of the license plate, the short cable is correct. If it’s on the right, you need the long cable.
Why aluminum balls?
Our 7075 alloy balls are as strong as steel yet they don’t need a plating to protect them from corrosion. That way they are easy to maintain looking new. For extreme towing loads we still offer a 2-5/16″ ball made of hardened steel.
What kind of maintenance is needed on the HitchJack?
Very little maintenance is required but HitchJack engineers recommend giving the HitchJack a monthly inspection on appearance and operation. Every day, the HitchJack has programmed a Anti-lock seizure. The HitchJack mechanics will slightly go up and down to prevent any locking corrosive.
How do I determine the Vertical Tow Weight (VTW)?
Vertical tow weight, or tongue weight, is typically determined to be 10–15% of the total loaded trailer weight (Gross Trailer Weight) for conventional bumper-pull trailers.
Will it work in a Tesla Model Y?
Unfortunately not. Tesla has discontinued powering the auxiliary trailer circuit (pin 4 of the circular 7-pin connector) which is where the HitchJack gets its power from.
